Langkawi, a world-renowned island resort, is also situated in Kedah. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea and is the first recognized UNESCO Global Geopark in Southeast Asia since 2007. Langkawi is connected by air to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore. The Senandung Langkawi express train departs from Kuala Lumpur and stops at major towns in Kedah such as Alor Setar, Sungai Petani and Gurun. Visitors heading to Langkawi can disembark at Alor Setar and proceed to the island by a ferry. The jumping off points to Langkawi are situated in Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis. Langkawi is also a stopover for the luxury liner, Star Cruises. Visitors from Thailand can sail into Langkawi from Satun.
