You can use the JR Kansai Hokuriku Area Pass for unlimited travel on designated train and bus lines (including shinkansen and limited express trains) in the Kansai Region, Hokuriku Region and Okayama for 7 consecutive days. It mostly combines the coverage areas of the Kansai Wide Area Pass and Hokuriku Area Pass into a single pass.

Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass is valid for unlimited travel in the valid area on the map

Valid trains are below:

  • Bullet Train “SANYO SHINKANSEN” (Shin-Osaka⇔Okayama)(available for the reserved seat ticket)
  • The pass can be used for the Hello Kitty Shinkansen.
  • Bullet Train “HOKURIKU SHINKANSEN” (Kanazawa⇔Joetsu-Myoko)(available for the reserved seat ticket)
  • Express Trains (HARUKA, THUNDERBIRD, KUROSHIO, KOUNOTORI, SUPER HAKUTO (Kyoto⇔Kamigori), etc.) (available for the reserved seat ticket )
  • A separate fare is required for traveling on SUPER HAKUTO (Kamigori⇔Tottori) and SUPER INABA (Kamigori⇔Tottori)
  • Special Rapid Services, Rapid Services, and Local trains on JR-WEST

Conventional lines

  • The pass is only valid on WEST JAPAN JR BUS route buses within the valid area.
  • The pass cannot be used on expressway buses.

  • Bullet Train “HOKURIKU SHINKANSEN” (Joetsu-Myoko⇔Tokyo)
  • Bullet Train “TOKAIDO SHINKANSEN” (Shin-Osaka⇔Tokyo)
  • Bullet Train “SANYO SHINKANSEN” (Okayama⇔Hakata)
  • Not valid for the IR Ishikawa Railway or the Ainokaze Toyama Railway.
  • As a special exception, the pass can be used for the Himi, Johana, or Nanao lines only if the pass-holder does not alight from the IR Ishikawa Railway (Kanazawa⇔Tsubata) or the Ainokaze Toyama Railway (Takaoka⇔Toyama).

Reminders

  • JR tickets operate under a registration system, with a very complicated booking process. Therefore, please ensure that you have provided the required information in order to make a purchase. Please bear in mind that H.I.S Travel Malaysia is not liable for any delays due to insufficient or incorrect information provided by travelers
  • Children require a child pass if occupying a seat in a reserved-seat carriage or traveling alone
  • Luggage Restrictions: passengers may bring up to two pieces of luggage, not including carry-ons and smaller bags. Each piece may not weigh more than 30kg and its length, width and depth may not add up to more than 250cm, while its length may not exceed 200cm

Steps on How to Redeem Exchange Order JR Pass in Japan
Purchase the Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order

1. To exchange your Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order for the actual Japan Rail Pass, you will need to follow these steps:
Arrive in Japan

2. Purchase the Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order: The Japan Rail Pass cannot be purchased directly in Japan. You need to buy an Exchange Order from an authorised sales office or an authorised travel agent before arriving in Japan
Present your Exchange Order

3. Arrive in Japan: Once you arrive in Japan, locate a Japan Rail Pass Exchange Office. These offices are usually found in major airports, including Narita, Haneda, Kansai, and other major train stations.
Choose the validity period

4. Present your Exchange Order: When you visit the Japan Rail Pass Exchange Office, present your Exchange Order along with your passport. Make sure to have your passport with you, as it will be required for verification purposes.

5. Choose the validity period: At the exchange office, you will be asked to choose the start date for your Japan Rail Pass. The pass can be activated on any day within 30 days of the exchange, but once activated, the validity period cannot be changed.

6. Complete the application form: You will need to fill out an application form with your personal details, including your name, passport number, and duration of stay. The form is usually available at the exchange office, and staff will assist you if needed.
Receive your Japan Rail Pass

7. Receive your Japan Rail Pass: After completing the form and verification, the staff will provide you with the actual Japan Rail Pass. The pass consists of a paper ticket and a small booklet containing important information about the pass, including rules and instructions.

Steps on How to Redeem Exchange Order (e-Voucher) in Japan
To exchange JR-WEST e-tickets purchased from H.I.S Travel Malaysia, you’ll need to use a designated ticket vending machine at JR-WEST stations, mainly located at Kansai Airport, Osaka Stations and others.
These machines are typically marked with an icon like the one shown as follows :

Steps & Process

  • Locate a designated machine: Look for ticket vending machines with the exchange ticket icon, often found at JR-WEST stations.
  • Select language: Choose your preferred language on the machine’s display.
  • Choose “Receive reserved ticket(s)”: This option is usually the starting point for exchanging e-tickets.
  • Select “EXCHANGE ORDER (E-TICKET)”: This option is for exchanging vouchers or e-tickets.
  • Scan or enter your e-ticket information: Use the machine’s scanner to read the QR code on your e-ticket or manually enter the Exchange Order Number.
  • Specify the usage start date: Confirm the date you intend to start using the ticket.
  • Confirm passport and personal information: You may need to scan your passport, particularly if it has an IC chip, and confirm that you agree to the terms of use.
  • Receive your ticket: Once the process is complete, the machine will dispense your ticket.
  • Proceed to the gate: Use your newly issued ticket to pass through the automated ticket gates.
Important notes:
Some e-tickets, especially those for Special Discounted Tickets, may require a passport with an IC chip for exchange at the machine.
If your passport cannot be read by the machine, or if you have issues with the exchange process, you may need to visit a ticket office.
