What Is The Japan Rail Pass Nationwide? 🚅🚝

The Japan Rail Pass Nationwide gives you unlimited travel on almost all JR trains and Shinkansen (excluding “Nozomi” and “Mizuho” trains) throughout Japan except Okinawa. You can also ride most local lines on JR buses, the Tokyo Monorail, and the JR-West Miyajima Ferry. You can choose any option of 7, 14, or 21 days depending on your itinerary of travel.

Japan Rail Pass Price💰

The Japan Rail Pass price may vary depending on whether it is an Ordinary or a Green (First class). If you want to travel in more comfort, you can buy the Green Pass, which gives you great amenities, a quieter and less crowded coach cabins with reclining seats, a footrest, and space to stretch out your legs for the long journey.
  • Adult aged 12 years old and above
  • Child aged 6 to 11 years old
  • Infant aged 0-5 years old
Notes: A Child Pass is required if the child occupies a seat in a reserved seat carriage or travels alone. Infants under the age of 6 travel free on Japan Rail, but this also means that infants are not entitled to a seat. In non-reserved, reserved and green carriage, you can carry them on empty seats, but if the train is very busy or with reserved seats, you must carry them on your lap. Therefore, each infant under 6 years of age must travel with 1 adult.

How To Do Seat Reservations? 💺

One of the best things about the JR Pass Nationwide is that you can make unlimited reservations for free on Shinkansen and other JR trains with reserved seats (subject to seat availability). During holidays or peak tourist seasons, it is recommended to reserve seats before boarding:
April 27 to May 6
August 11-20
December 28 to January 6
There are 2 ways for you to reserve train tickets:
👉You can go the JR Ticket Office in the stations “Midori-no-madoguchi”, and simply show your Japan Rail Pass to the train staff to get your reserved seat JR trains tickets.
👉You can also go to the reserved seat ticket machine in most major JR line stations to book and issue a reserved seat ticket without waiting in line at the ticket office.

Luggage Rule On The Shinkansen Effective May 2020 🧳

You can bring up to two pieces of luggage on board for free. The sum of length, width, and height of each piece of luggage shall not exceed 250 cm, the length shall not exceed 2 meters, and the weight shall not exceed 30 kilograms.

Advance reservations are required and are free. Shinkansen reserved seats will automatically
include reserved space for your luggage. These seats normally will be the last row in most (but not all carriages),
and there will be a dedicated space in the back for oversized luggage. (Unfortunately, you can’t recline in these seats if you have luggage behind you.) Failure to make a reservation will result in a 1,000-yen penalty, and your luggage may be carried by the conductor.
